Wind powered drawing machine.

Made while on an exchange at Nagoya University of Art during the summer of 2019.

Upon arrival we were instantly made to download an app that kept us informed about natural disasters and events, earthquakes, typhoons etc.. While many are insignificant and go unnoticed, they were still registered by the app which allowed us access to all the scientific data that went with it. I was staggered to see how frequently these things occur in Japan and how readily minor tremors were accepted as part of daily life.

Given the brief of simply ‘Wind’, I came to the idea of a sort of whimsical seismograph for the breeze. Indulging interests in mechanics, balance and a sense of the absurd.
